Software Licensing Specialist (SAM / ITAM / Commercial background)

The role is to support high end consultancy services in enterprise organisations especially in the key areas of cloud migration, management, optimisation, software licensing and FinOps.

The Licensing Specialist performs a variety of commercial, software licensing and software asset management related tasks working across contractual, technical, financial, and commercial client areas. You will be responsible for managing and optimising software assets throughout their lifecycle, initially focusing on the commercial procurement and renewal function of software assets.

NB: Must be willing to obtain SC Clearance in the UK (minimum 5 years UK residency)

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Licensing Specialist include:

  • Identify, document, and report licence exposures, risks, and associated remediation options
  • Requesting quotation from software vendors and selecting the best value-for-money
  • Working with stakeholders to ensure purchases are made in a timely manner
  • Monitoring a minimum of two mailboxes and responding to requests in a timely manner
  • Create and support the building of Effective License Positions for various Software vendors
  • Work up and report licence optimisation angles and narratives in line with commercial options
  • Operate as part of the Synyega team, contributing to client engagement planning and delivery
  • Assist clients with software renewals, ad-hoc commercial or licensing queries, and other areas of Software Asset Management
  • Focus on the client needs at all times and display professionalism in all client facing situations
  • Contribute to the development and on-going improvement of licensing related processes
  • Compile accurate Effective Licensing Positions and associated reporting from a variety of data sources

Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge and application of the principals of commercial management
  • Group mailbox management
  • Awareness and understanding of data centre and cloud computing environments
  • Team player with individual drive and tenacity
  • Software vendor licensing working knowledge and experience, minimum of 3 years, ideally gained from a vendor, reseller, consultancy, or end user environment for at least 2 of the following vendors: Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, VMware, SAP (other vendor experience will be considered)

Desirable:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Data handling and analysis experience gained from an IT Asset Management environment
  • Experience of specific IT Asset Management discovery tools (e.g., Flexera, Snow, USU, ServiceNow, RV Tools, SCCM)
  • Wider software vendor licensing experience (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, IBM, VMware etc.)
  • Cloud FinOps data handling and analysis
  • Cloud computing data handling and analysis

Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree or similar/equivalent combination of studies and experience
  • You may have gained relevant experience from a variety of backgrounds and for the right person we will provide training and support to help you become successful in this role.

Languages

  • English: excellent verbal and written skills are essential
  • EU languages desirable (but not essential) such as: German, Italian, French, Spanish
